All About Brentwood Media Group -- And now, WestsideToday
Our History
Brentwood Media Group was formed in 1991 by Jeffrey S. Hall, former president of the Valley & Ventura County editions of the Los Angeles Times. Hall, a Stanford grad and a Harvard MBA, previously spent several years at the Kansas City Star, where he started as a cub reporter and worked his way up to vice president of marketing.
During his newspaper career, Hall heard the same reader lament over and over: that these big papers were simply too big, and what people really wanted was news about their own community. Hall’s hometown of Brentwood had no community newspaper – and a light bulb appeared over his head.
The Brentwood News was met with an enthusiastic response. Over time, we added additional titles, creating a group of newsmagazines to serve the Westside’s upper-end communities of Bel-Air, Beverly Hills, Santa Monica, Pacific Palisades, Malibu and, of course, Brentwood. Even though all of these communities are world-renowned, their residents still want to know what’s going on in their own backyards.
Our company continues to evolve. Recently, all six publications went to an all-magazine, full-gloss format. The website has been totally revamped, and we have a local cable TV show on the drawing board.
In late 2007, the company received an infusion of capital, and the Brentwood Media Group became Westside Today, LLC. The new funding will enable Westside Today to grow in the years to come (click here to see story). We plan to add titles, grow our circulation, beef up local coverage and continue to enhance our website.
