Drive Up the Coast.... and into the World of Corot
The Santa Barbara Museum of Art will present more than a dozen paintings, plus several prints and drawings, the first exhibition devoted to the art of Jean-Baptists-Camille Corot (1796-1875) in California, and the first in the United States since the major survey in 1996.

SBMA’s show will highlight Corot’s development as an artist, from his first views of Rome to his late, delicately-painted landscapes, both real and ideal.
Corot grew up in a comfortable home in Anvers and remained there for his entire career. Corot was 26 before he got the courage to pursue a career in painting. Although he was shy and awkward for his entire life, his talent grew and he became a leading painter of the Barbizon School of France in the mid 18th Century.
