MountainGate Hosts its 4th annual Veterans Appreciation Tournament on August 9th

For the fourth year in a row, the beautiful MountainGate Country Club will host a golf tournament to honor our nation's veterans.

By Tracy Smith
Event date: August 09, 2010

Members of MountainGate Country Club in Los Angeles, will honor those who have given more of themselves than could be imagined, when they host the 4th Annual MountainGate Veterans Appreciation Tournament (MVAT), Monday August 9, 2010. Profits from this year’s tournament will benefit the Wounded Warrior Project and Congressional Medal of Honor Foundation.
To date this annual golf and tennis event has raised and donated more than $350,000 to the Wounded Warrior Project, an organization that assists severely wounded veterans in their transition back to civilian life.
This year the day will honor four Congressional Medal of Honor recipients: Mike Thornton, Tom Norris, Jack Jacobs and Tibor Rubin, with a portion of the proceeds also benefiting the Congressional Medal of Honor Foundation.
“It’s with great admiration and thanks to the brave men and women in our armed forces that we embark each year to make this tournament a success,” said Don Schwarz, co-chairman of MVAT. “Without their incredible sacrifice Americans would not enjoy our freedom and way of life.”
The event begins at 9:00 a.m. with registration and a Continental Breakfast followed by the opening ceremonies which include a presentation by a four-man honor guard, with the Medal of Honor recipients and wounded warriors in procession, all making their way through a corridor of 108 golf carts to kick-off the tournament with America’s tenor, Steve Amerson, singing the Star Spangled Banner. Then it’s a day filled with golf, tennis and camaraderie followed by a reception hosted by Mistress of Ceremonies, actress Karri Turner.
