The John Wayne Cancer Institute Turns the Pumpkin Pink for Halloween

One in eight women will be diagnosed with breast cancer during their lifetime, and it is the John Wayne Cancer Institute (JWCI) at Saint John’s mission to help fight it. In honor of National Breast Cancer Awareness Month, JWCI held its annual “Turning the Pumpkin Pink” costume party on Saturday, October 29, 2011 at Hotel Angeleno in Los Angeles.
Early detection is key in the fight against breast cancer, and funds raised by the costume party go towards JWCI’s “Early Detection” Breast Cancer Research.
“Here at the Institute we are working hard to find new ways of detecting and treating breast cancer,” said Lou Lazatin, President and Chief Executive Officer of JWCI and Saint John’s Health Center. “With nearly 200,000 women diagnosed every year in the United States, breast cancer is a disease we can’t ignore. The work we do here at JWCI is essential to helping us fight it.”
Event Co-Chairs this year were Tim Dunn and Debbie Menin Turning the Pumpkin Pink included cocktails, dinner and a silent auction along with performances by U2 tribute band L.A.vation, Patrick Barnitt (vocalist) and Howlett Smith (piano), as well as Jeanine Del Carlo (vocalist).
