Darlington at San Vicente Stoplight Status
By Bob Blue | June 20, 2011
Progress might come soon in terms of making the stoplight at Darlington and San Vicente operational. This is the corner where Coral Tree Café, Toscana, Tavern and Palmeri reside.
The City will proceed in two phases – The first phase will target completion of the traffic signal work on or before the deadline to receive federal funding (June 30, 2012).
A separate process will be pursued to decide whether or not to make a median “pocket” cut to allow cars to “tuck in” another lane when making left turns and U-turns. This could require chopping down a Coral Tree.
This process would likely include hearings before at the: Cultural Heritage Commission, San Vicente Design Review Board and the Board of Public Works.
During the first phase, when the traffic signal is made operational, left turns and U-turns will not be allowed at Darlington Avenue. This could also become a permanent solution if it is decided it’s not worth it to cut down a coral tree.
