2012 MARTIN LUTHER KING, JR. NATIONAL HOLIDAY “WEEKEND OF CELEBRATIONS”

Embracing the theme, “Peace Begins With Me”, Westsiders will join together to celebrate our rich diversity and promote peace, brotherhood, social and economic justice. The activities and events presented by Reverend Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Westside Coalition will span an entire weekend, beginning January 13th and leading up to the 27th Annual Martin Luther King, Jr. National Holiday Celebration & Community Involvement Fair, a multi-ethnic interfaith Program, featuring Keynote Speaker, the Hon. Janice Hahn, U.S. House of Representatives; music and dance performances; Education Awards presentations; inspirational readings & more! This annual celebration of the official King National Holiday has grown to become one of the largest and most diverse celebrations of its kind on the West Coast., Monday, January 16th, from 9 a.m. to Noon, at the SGI-USA Auditorium, 525 Wilshire Blvd., Santa Monica. The celebration is followed by a Community Involvement Fair, across the street at 606 Wilshire Blvd., Santa Monica. The fair will offer refreshments and informational displays by a variety of community organizations. These events are free & open to the public.
The 2012 MLK National Holiday “Weekend of Celebrations” is presented by the Martin Luther King, Jr. Westside Coalition, and is sponsored by the City of Santa Monica, Rand Corporation, City TV-Santa Monica, the Santa Monica College Associates, Soka Gakkai International (SGI-USA), Santa Monica College, and a variety of other individuals, organizations, and corporate contributors.

Average Rating:  Alivia santa monica | 1:09pm on Saturday, January 14th, 2012  | After the Martin Luther King, Jr. National Holiday Celebration & Community Involvement Fair in Santa Monica (Mon 1/16), there will be a MLK potluck picnic at Santa Monica Park, next to Santa Monica Pier at the canon on Ocean Ave & Colorado Blvd. At the picnic people will be able to make signs and read brief passages of Martin Luther King letters, speeches, quotes etc. At 2 pm people will walk to Venice Beach carrying quotes (signs) from Martin Luther King Jr. |
