Infiltrators or Refugees: A Presentation and Discussion about Asylum Seekers in Israel Today.
Over the past five years more than 60,000 asylum seekers have come to Israel most of whom entered the country through the Sinai which prompted Israel to create an asylum system from scratch.

HIAS (Hebrew Immigrant Aid Society), Right Now: Advocates for African Asylum Seekers in Israel, the New Israel Fund, T’ruah: The Rabbinic Call for Human Rights (formerly known as Rabbis for Human Rights-North America), National Council of Jewish Women/LA, and IKAR will sponsor a discussion on January 27, 2013 5:00pm-7:00pm at the NCJW/LA Auditorium, 543 North Fairfax Avenue in Los Angeles.
The discussion about asylum seekers in Israel --who they are, how the Jewish state is responding, and how can American Jewish communities get involved, will feature Mark Hetfield, HIAS’ President and CEO (interim), Maya Paley, co-founder of Right Now along and a screening of
a short documentary film by Kady Buchanan. A question and answer session will follow.
