Charity Navigator Awards 4-Star Rating to TreePeople

Tree People receives highest rating from Charity Navigator.

By Laurie Kaufman  |  March 12, 2010

Charity Navigator, the largest independent evaluator of the financial health of philanthropic organizations, has awarded the highest 4-star rating to Los Angeles-based TreePeople. Charity Navigator is the nation’s most-utilized evaluator of charities, having assessed the financial health of more than 5,000 of America’s largest charities.

“We are honored that Charity Navigator has awarded us its highest rating,” said Tom Hansen, Executive Director of TreePeople. “This is a strong affirmation of the trust our donors have in TreePeople as we serve the Los Angeles region with community forestry, environmental education and sustainability initiatives.”

Charity Navigator examines two broad areas of a charity's financial health – how responsibly it functions day to day as well as how well positioned it is to sustain its programs over time. It then awards the charity an overall rating, ranging from zero to four stars, and provides in-depth and objective analysis of its fundraising operations.

Charity Navigator’s 4-star rating indicates that TreePeople outperforms most charities in the United States in its efforts to operate in the most fiscally responsible way possible. Founded in 2001, Charity Navigator highlights the fine work of efficient charities and provides donors with essential information to give them greater confidence in the charitable choices they make.

TreePeople is a nonprofit that unites the power of trees, people and technology to grow a sustainable future for the Los Angeles region. TreePeople’s mission is to inspire, engage and support people to take personal responsibility for the urban environment, making it safe, healthy, fun and sustainable and to share the process as a model for the world.
