Becoming a parent involves sacrifice – sleep, money and for a long time good music. Thankfully, the later is no longer a required.

Parenthood is hard work. Whether achieved biologically –bringing said progeny into the world is never dignified – or via the mountains of paper work required to adopt or stepparent, all methods leave something to be desired. Then, there is the even more arduous task of actually parenting the little devils.
But there are moments, like those on Saturday afternoon, November 14 at Royce Hall when They Might Be Giants (TMBG) performed and parenting was just fun.
The duo, childhood friends John Linnell and John Flansburgh, were accompanied by several talented cohorts and a fabulous confetti machine during the hour long family concert which highlighted music from their popular, award-winning albums 'Here Come the 123s,' 'Here Come the ABCs' with a particular focus on their latest kid-centric effort, 'Here Comes Science'.
The music is a joy to listen to no matter what your age. I’m old enough to remember TMBG’s alternative rock roots (okay, the 1980s were hard too with the big hair and even bigger shoulder pads) and I am pleased to report that their artistry achieves the same heights -- even if their newer fans have to be hoisted on shoulders enjoy the performance when invited to boogie by the stage.
While parenting remains a constant challenge, there is music from TMBG to calm the savage beast and encourage some whimsical parent child bonding; a sometimes gigantic achievement which was enjoyed by all last Saturday.
