West LA fencer Michael Costin wins double gold at North American Cup
Teenager Michael Costin's Olympic Dream takes a step forward with major victory during a weekend tournament in November.

Culver City fencer Michael Costin, 16, achieved the
biggest victory of his extraordinary career thus far, earning two gold medals after a series of tense and thrilling bouts during the weekend of November 11, 2012.
Costin won two gold medals in the cadet and junior events at the prestigious USFA (United States Fencing Association) North American Cup in Austin Texas and placed third at the Cadet Saber World Cup in Poland in September 2011; these wins put Costin at the top of his age grouping in fencing.
"I have been fencing for seven years,"
says Costin who is currently ranked Number One in his age group nationally. With a few more key tournaments ahead of him, he is determined to qualify for the US team who will compete at the Moscow World Championships in April 2012. The composition of the team will be announced at the US Junior Olympic Championships in February 2012.
Costin, a student at Culver City High School, has
fencing in his DNA. His father is Romanian fencing
champion Daniel Costin, a former Olympic coach. Costin Sr runs Avant-Garde Fencers Club in West LA where he trains many gifted students, including his son Michael of course.
Costin's ultimate goal? "An Olympic gold medal,of course," he smiles. "But I still have a long way to go."
