And what an outstanding success it was !!
More funds generated for Sea Shepherd for their policing of japanese illegal whaling.
Of course such events are never influenced by a few malcontents. |
Minke Pacific Ocean | 10:44pm on Thursday, February 4th, 2010 |
The issue here Mark, is that this bridal show/ the shop owner and the designer , plus Ady Gil are all jumping on the SS bandwagon for notoriety & reflected fame & glory as the SS is the flavour of the month due to Whale Wars. None of the above are spokespersons for the SS and none can collect donations for the SS. |
Anonymous Pacific Ocean | 10:30pm on Thursday, February 4th, 2010 |
And only the SSCS can ask for donations, no one else can do so. Ady Gil is not a SS spokesperson. |
Minke Pacific Ocean | 10:27pm on Thursday, February 4th, 2010 |
The Ady Gil was leased from Ady Gil by the SS, there is not going to be another AG built, Ady Gil has had his fiften minutes of fame and is an egomaniac cashing in on the SS, little wonder he needs to buy "love". Only the SS society can be given donations, not the bridal gown shop, the designer or Ady Gil. |

So Mark, can we assume from your attempt to change the subject away from Ady Gil's buying of sex from women, that you concede that he is, in fact, exactly the wrong person to headline a bridal show? You remember that, right? The bridal show? The one in the story above? |
Outraged Bride LA | 3:16am on Thursday, February 4th, 2010 |
Oh, so you are a sexist also. Is it just future brides that you think are stupid or is it all women?
Do you realize women can vote these days and even go to college, serve on the Supreme Court and get Phd's?
No wonder you support Ady Gil, he is just another sexist who objectifies women like you do. When was the last time you paid a woman to have sex with you?
By the way that was a nice classic ad hominem attack. (See women can even use big words.) It is what I would expect from someone who realizes they have no facts on there side and is trying to deflect the argument. And it only took you 2 days to come up with it. |

You are free to disagree that the global environment faces its biggest threat since the last extinction but I wonder how far you dare to push the boundaries before its too late.
A little like gambling until you lose your shirt, or should I say, bridal gown.
You've become quite knowledgeble about the whales since this thread started - I applaud your transition from bride to be to a scholar of the high seas LOL

"...the environment all around us is facing it's biggest delemma since the last mass extinction."
Well mark I disagree with you. But even if you are right how does protecting an abundant species (Minke whales are estimated at over 670,000) help the environment? Aren't there critically endangered species like tuna that would be a better choice to help?
And I am not debating about one man's character. In his own words he admits being a sleaze. The very first post I made told you how you could find the info about him, but obviously you don't want to know. And I have followed other links to pictures that he posted of parties at his house with topless women, that he paid to be there, running around among his diner guest.
As both Matt and I have said, it is not about him, it is about the SSCS. Most charities go out of their way not to offend anyone, but the SSCS is either clueless or they don't care. They should send a different representative to this type of event. Or don't send anyone. The event is 3 days long and he is only there for part of one day, just cancel his appearance. |

Google search "New Dating Web Sites Bring Sugar Daddies"
You can watch Ady say it in his own words.
Lets assume, just for a second, that it was a good idea to support Sea Shepherd. They have NO other more APPROPRIATE spokespeople available??????? |
Mark TO | 3:32pm on Sunday, January 31st, 2010 |
I have no knowledge of any of Ady Gil's comments and whether they may have been taken out of context.
I just respectfully believe there is a greater matter at hand here and that concerns the survival of species and our environment around the world in general.
While we debate about the character of any one individual the environment all around us is facing it's biggest delemma since the last mass extinction. |

On the other hand, maybe one of the brides can find herself with a new career by turning pro for Ady Gil. |
Matt Detroit | 12:55pm on Friday, January 29th, 2010 |
Ady Gil has simply updated the old saying: "Why buy the cow when you can lease it, take all the milk and discard it when a better looking cow comes along." |
Outraged Bride LA | 7:38am on Friday, January 29th, 2010 |
Mark. The issue here is the choice of spokesman by the Sea Shepherds for this event. It is not whether the Japanese are doing real research or not. If you want to argue about the legality of Japan's whaling I saw many sites where you can do just that.
But as a friendly suggestion, you may want to do some research of your own because with just an hour or so of my time I found enough to know that you are wrong and/or lying.
The International Whaling Commission's own rules say that nations doing research issue their own permits, so there is no violation there. Should the rules be changed? Probably, but for now they say what they say. |
Mark TO | 7:28am on Friday, January 29th, 2010 |
That should have read 'Antartic'. |
Mark TO | 7:26am on Friday, January 29th, 2010 |
What the Japanese pass for reasearch is laughable - the Japanese have only presented one highly questionable paper on their so-called research which incidentally only the most gullible would believe.
In defiance of the International Whaling Commision the Japanese actually issue their own 'research permits' to poach whales in the Antartic whale sanctuary. |
Outraged Bride LA | 7:14am on Friday, January 29th, 2010 |
Well I had time to do a little research. There are legal experts on both sides. One side says the Japanese are breaking the law and the SSCS can legally do what they are doing. The other experts say the SSCS are breaking the law and the Japanese can legally do what they are doing. Since the Japanese continue to do what the have been doing for decades the solution is for the anti-whalers to take them to an international court and get the issue resolved. I found the same situation with the status of the whales. Some experts say there are plenty of minke whales and the small hunt has no effect, other say they are endangered and still others say there isnt enough data. Since it appears until very recently the Japanese have been the only ones collecting data then I guess the other side should spend some time and money collecting enough data to make a determination.
That being said, none of it matters in regards to the situation we are discussing here. The SSCS wants to convince people to give them charity donations. With the economy and the recent events in Haiti people have less money to give and therefore will be more discriminating in who the give their money to. So charities need to make the best impression possible to their audience. The audience at a bridal show is women who are getting married, their girlfriends and mothers. It doesnt take a genius to figure out that a man, much less a creepy old man who pays women for sex, isnt going to impress this audience. Now if it was David Beckham or Orlando Bloom that would be different. But the best messenger for this audience would be another woman. From my research it appears that the SSCS founder has a fianc. Wouldnt she be the perfect representative? She would have much in common with the audience. I doubt Mr. Gil knows much about veils, trains, beading and all the other wedding dress issues.
So as I said at the beginning of this discussion. I will not consider this shop or designer for my wedding and I will tell the same thing to my friends and other brides I run into at florists, bakeries, etc. I have already mentioned this to a number of my friends and all of them agree that this decision by this shop and designer is wrong. I believe they will lose many customers over this issue, people who wont even consider them because of this. The wedding industry is very competitive and I dont think any shop can afford the bad publicity they are getting over this. The SSCS will not lose and may even get a little more money. But the shop and designer will pay the price for supporting this man. |

Judith G.
YOU said "illegal". It isn't and no amount of name-calling on your part is going to change that fact. Sorry you don't like that. The simple truth here, like Outraged bride said, is that Ady Gil, regardless of the cause for which he'll be appearing, is exactly the wrong person to have at a bridal show. I would think, indeed, hope and pray, that the brides coming to the show hold intimacy with a little higher regard than the dollar amount it can be sold for. We know that Ady Gil only considers women a commodity to be bid upon. |
Outraged Bride LA | 12:46pm on Thursday, January 28th, 2010 |
So Judith you don't feel that the spokesman for the whales personnal life matters? You wouldn't care if he drugged and raped a 13 year-old like Roman Polanski did, because after all he is trying to save the whales. Or is it OK for him to break laws because he has a lot of money?
I haven't had time to do any research, too busy with my Maid of Honor duties for by BFF, so I don't know whether whaling is legal or not and I don't understand the reference to "scientific research".
But the man admits to paying women for sex, which except for the Nevada brothels is illegal and even at the brothels it is still immoral. That is not the kind of man I would want associated with any cause I supported. Isn't there another quasi-celebrity (since before now I have never heard of this man) who could represent the Sea Shepherds? |
Judith G Los Angeles | 12:34pm on Thursday, January 28th, 2010 |
Matt Detroit... If you think that the Japanese are killing whales for the sake of "scientific research" then you are as delusional, misguided and malcious as they are. This is simply a fundraiser for the Sea Shepherd Society-- not the man himself. I am very sure that the whales, dolphins and other marine mammals that are spared due to the fundraising activities of a few caring individuals, no matter what their personal lives involve, don't care and nor does the rest of the world. |
Outraged Bride LA | 11:59am on Thursday, January 28th, 2010 |
Thanks Matt!
I am glad to see that some people still have morals. If you have a partner I hope she (or he) appreciates you.
Judith whether he is married or not doesn't matter. HE HIRES PROSTITUTES AND BRAGS ABOUT IT!!!
If he just dated/slept with a lot of young women who are impressed with his money, it would still be disgusting but legal, look at Hugh Hefner. But prostitution is illegal. Making a deal with a girl so you don't have to worry about her saying no at the end of the night is prostitution no matter how you dress it up. |
Matt Detroit | 11:42am on Thursday, January 28th, 2010 |
To Judith G:
1) Ady Gil is not fighting the illegal slaughter of whales. He's fighting the perfectly LEGAL scientific research of whales.
2) We know he's not married, that's the point he's a sugar daddy who pays women to be intimate with him - HARDLY the right person to be at a bridal show. |
Judith G Los Angeles | 10:21am on Thursday, January 28th, 2010 |
Seems to me that this event is about raising money to fight the illegal slaughter of whales... Why not focus on the bigger picture which is SAVING WHALES and not what a man does in his personal life (and by-the-way, the man in question is NOT married). |

How can a bridal shop and wedding dress designer support a man who pays for prostitutes and is proud of it.
'Ady Gil, a 50-year-old entrepreneur, claims he's worth between $10 million and $50 million. He owns two large production companies in Los Angeles. He believes the arrangement site is a great way to meet women.
"You can make a deal with the girl. You don't have to worry about whether it's going to be 'yes' or 'no,'" he said. "You don't have to take them to dinner and hope that maybe something will happen. The cards are on the table."'
Use Google and search for 'Ady Gil online date young women' and see what you find.
My friends and I and everyone I discus my wedding with will shop elsewhere for our weddings and find a different designer for our dresses.
Shame on this shop for promoting a man who acts like this. |
