Mountain Lion Killed on 405

By Brentwood News September 15 2011 Issue  |  September 22, 2011

A young male mountain lion was struck by a car and killed on the 405 last month. Incidents like these are quite rare; the cats usually stay as out of sight as possible, up in the hills, where they roam widely.
This particular cat was wearing a radio transmitter that wildlife researchers had put on him shortly after birth. Researchers hypothesize he was possibly trying to get over to the east side of the 405 so as to escape another, more dominant, male cat. The mountain lion started in Malibu and continued east from there.
Crossing the freeway is difficult for mountain lions and other wild animals. Animal advocates would like to see more bridges built specifically for animal crossings.
