LAPD, Councilman Rosendahl Urge Westside Residents to ‘Slow Down For Julia’
Press conference and flyer distribution highlight public safety campaign in memory of 13-year old Julia Siegler.

As a Westside resident, it’s hard to forget February 26, 2010 when 13-year old Brentwood resident Julia Siegler was tragically killed as she crossed Sunset Blvd on her way to school.
This morning, nearly seven months later, Julia’s mother Jody Cukier Siegler was joined by Councilman Bill Rosendahl and LAPD Captain Nancy Lauer at the corner of Sunset and Cliffwood to remind motorists of the dangers of speeding and/or texting while driving.
Also this morning, LAPD officers were positioned at nearly 10 places throughout Brentwood and the Westside handing out purple ‘Slow Down for Julia’ flyers. I was greeted at the corner of Centinela and Wilshire, while I also saw them on San Vicente and Barrington.
The event was timed to coincide with the start of the school year.
On the Westside alone, Sunset Blvd has roadside memorials at Cliffwood, Allenford, and just west of Will Rogers Park. Each from a young life needlessly lost in recent years. The LAPD made it clear that they will be stepping up enforcement along Sunset Blvd, but urged the community to do its part as well, and that is to Slow Down for Julia.

Sullivan Brentwood | 10:51pm on Monday, October 18th, 2010 | Julia is out of harm's way gazing down upon those she loves, particularly her mother, who no doubt will never see another sunset or another sunrise without tears in her eyes. The same may well be true of the killer and his or her family. So many lives, destroyed and for what: a problem that a dime and a pay-telephone booth could have solved.
As for Councilman Bill Rosendahl and LAPD Captain Nancy Lauer, sorry folks--too little, too late. You are in the chain of command, and you have been paid to do a job. Insofar as I’m concerned, you haven't earned your keep. Were I king, you would be out of a job—PERIOD, full stop, end of analysis.
Brentwood was once a community; now it’s little more than an unenforced speed-trap running from Paul Revere to the 405 (or from 26th Street and San Vicente to the V.A.). Don’t blame the officers of LAPD. They are not wearing bars or stripes; they are not the bureaucrats; they are not the politicians.
I would point out that State of California has a chief law enforcement officer, but I don’t want to be called a “whore” by Gloria Allred and the mainstream media.
