Miracle on San Vicente
Brentwood resident Elizabeth Stern (right), saw “Irish” Mike Nolan (left), a homeless veteran, hanging out day after day at the Starbucks at San Vicente and Barrington. Elizabeth took Mike under her wing and saw to it he got proper care. Today he is doing exceedingly well and the two remain very close. A group called VHC, which puts on the annual “Veterans Holiday Celebration,” put on a fabulous show on the VA grounds December 5 for those who served our country. The annual event, now 18 years running, honors veterans with food, music and fellowship. An army of volunteers served up a very nice dinner made up of contributions from local food establishments. Mayor Villaraigosa came, as did several military dignitaries – and the Laker Girls! Brentwood resident Jim Belushi and the Sacred Hearts Band played for a huge, well-fed crowd.
