UCLA Live Presents Los Lobos to Rock the Family at Royce Hall

The Grammy-winning pride of East LA, Los Lobos rocked East and West LA alike at Royce Hall on Saturday January 30th at a joyous, family concert made even more family friendly when the stellar band introduced several Wolf cubs – sons, daughters and grandsons of current members – on stage to the multi-generational audience. It was an afternoon of great music and a great family feeling

Drawing from a variety of musical traditions Los Lobos – comprised of singer/guitarists David Hidalgo, Louie Perez and Cesar Rosas, singer/bassist Conrad Lozano, sax player Steve Berlin and drummer Cougar Estrada – have crafted a unique sound all of their own which has lead to steady success throughout an illustrious 36 year career.

Featuring songs from their latest album, ‘Los Lobos Goes Disney’ the band performed their unique versions of several Disney classics including 'Heigh-Ho' (from Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs), 'I Wan'na Be Like You' and 'Bare Necessities' (from The Jungle Book), 'Not in Nottingham' and 'Oo-De-Lally' (from Robin Hood) 'Cruella De Vil' (from 101 Dalmatians). Thanks to Los Lobos’ talent – they are as good today as they were when I first heard them, maybe even better - I actually enjoyed the Disney songs as much as my six year old daughter – for once.

Parents were rewarded for introducing their children to the Los Lobos sound when the band ended the set by performing 'La Bamba' and other hits which had the entire multi cultural audience on its feet and grateful for the joyous sound of the wolf.

UCLA Live’s Saturday afternoon family concerts are a joy for all ages – I hope that they present even more next season as the hour long sets are the perfect way to introduce tykes to good music without boring them or sending parents rushing for earplugs. Bravo Los Lobos, Bravo UCLA Live!
