HGTV is Coming to LA: Can Your Home Use a Makeover? Read On!

Do you have an interior decorating disaster in your home? Did you complete a DIY makeover that should have been a DI-Don’t? Has your design dream turned into a nightmare? Then HGTV is looking for you!

By Allison Dalvit  |  May 12, 2011

HGTV is NOW CASTING energetic, fun-spirited homeowners who want to remedy their failed decorating attempts! Friends and families of homeowners may also apply—if you think your friend/relative needs a decorating intervention, let us know!

Homeowners, AKA the Design Victims:

• Must have created a hideous room (that can be fixed cosmetically). Horrible color schemes, decorating “themes” gone wrong, “kitschy” becoming tacky—all of these are great! Loud designs welcome!

• Must have a family member or close friend who is troubled by the hideousness of the room. (Can be the homeowner him/herself.)

• Must have at least a little sense of humor about the room—willing to take some gentle teasing about it.

• The room may have been designed and decorated by the homeowner, a friend/relative, or even a hired designer. NOTE: rooms that were decorated by the home’s previous owner will not be considered.

• Home must be within 60 miles of Los Angeles.

If you think you might be a victim of your own self-inflicted design wounds, apply now!

Our design expert will deconstruct your decorating and help you see where things went wrong. Then, let the fun begin! Our host will bring the room down to the bare bones and help you redecorate it—including furniture, window treatments, finishes and accessories—and this time end up with a room you can be proud of!

Taping begins in mid-June, and we are casting ASAP!

I don't live near anything but Mammoth Lakes, CA and have a husband who lost all immediate family members while deployed to the middle east in last 6 yrs (36 yr old brother, and a mother 6 mos later to cancer) and his dad in May to cancer, the returning again to bury his dad in Arlington Cemetery - all at his own expense traveling from Bahrain x2 and from Japan 3 times in '05 for Mom and brother. He lost 2 family homes he should have inherited, 1 to medicaid & 1 to an unscrupulous hospice worker who conned his mom into signing a quit claim to her home in exchange for home care she was entitled to anyway - then she transferred her to a nursing home the day we left & died 36 hrs later. We finally bought a manufactured home (after watching the Blu & Clayton segments on the same subject) on 3/4 acre backed up to BLM land in front of White Mountain. I wanted xerescaped land that keeps desert landscape in mind as I a "greenie" from way back - bought the tankless water heater, Pridium A/C unit (Bath Crash), IC cooktop, (House Crash) Genovations decking (Yard Crash) wanted shower tall enough for 6'5" husband who can't stand easily usually & an organized closet so clothes are protected from invasive dust and either oversized air jet tub or enclosed jacuzzi (bath crash) for husband's injuries from Afghanistan and Bahrain, I wanted to include a grilling space in an enclosed area as I can't be out in sunlight but want to share his hobbies like the outdoor cooking/grilling (yard crash). My service dog is a Malamute and the heat kills us both - Both my husband and I are soon to be disabled veterans - I am a 100% disabled vet already - we need help to turn a non-handicap friendly home and yard into one that can serve as a haven instead of a prison and you'll never be in a store in Bishop, CA and I can't go outside anyway except to the doctor twice a yr at the Reno VAMC. So - just in case you notice this and feel you could fit us in anywhere in your schedule - he comes home to the house he's never seen & never wanted to live in CA in the 1st place but given his long absences, I needed to live in a home near my best friend (an LVN) who can take care of horse emergencies, my emergency falls, share expenses for joint trips to the Dr.'s in Reno who also takes in anyone who needs a home and has none - people to alpacas - If not for my husband and his needs I'd definitely nominate her for you deserving design show but we're sort of a support system for each other - I loan her funds when I have them and she gives me help to move and organize my home when she's not on her way down financially for the 3rd time. She's more Victorian and I'm more sleek modern (with pull out shelves so I can reach the contents (results of back and leg injury in USMC). I do like the ventless fire sources in Mbedroom/bathroom for my husband who can't stand the sub 60's temps if they are cost effective (Bath/Yard Crash). I have the bones & home is 2006 w/auto sprinkler system and the pebble floors (bath crash) in 2 baths & laundry room and Pergo in entry way - trying to replace carpet with it all over as allergies are a factor. Service Dog needs an inside bathroom so She isn't limited by my ability to get Her outside at the right moments. Her Royal Higness, Yachi, Empress of All Malamutia has needs & has helped me for 8 yrs while my husband was gone when neighbor Carolyn was away for mod. at a time. I need Her to be healthy and happy for years to come. So in case you read this and decide we fit in somewhere in any Coming Home segment or anything else - please feel free to help. I watch and love your shows but the talent hasn't rubbed off even after all these yrs - David (Color Splash) was the only person I ever actually voted for on any TV show and I love his styling and use of color - still not able to do what any of you do!!! Drat it - HELP! Jane D and Yachi
