Philadelphia Favorite Tony Luke Creates Memorable Film and Cheesesteaks

While it's unusual to find one man who embodies two of Philadelphia's most treasured exports, Tony Luke is that man; he makes cheesesteaks and movies to watch while enjoying this northeastern staple.

Philly
Philly's Own Actor and Chef, Tony Luke

'The Nail,' co-written by and starring Luke. The film is now airing on Showtime and The Movie Channel, after earning the audience award for Best Film at his hometown film festival, Cinefast 09. Impressive versatility for a former martial artist and would-be boxer, born and bred on the streets of South Philly.

In the 1990's Luke worked tirelessly with his father Tony Sr. and brother Nick to build the Tony Luke's legend. From lunch trucks to full Italian meal take-out, they tried it all until they hit on the Old Philly Style Sandwich formula that took enormous culinary leaps beyond the famous Philly Cheesesteak.

Luke and his family worked tirelessly to redefine the Philly sandwich. The work paid off, the Philly Cheesesteak sandwich a la Luke has been hailed for quality and innovation by Gourmet Magazine, New York Times, Washington Post, GQ, Zagat, Food Network, NBC, FOX, CBS, ABC and scores of other media making it one of the biggest success stories of the Philadelphia dining renaissance of the last two decades.
