Tom Safran Seeks to Construct New Office Building on San Vicente – a “Personal Dream”

Developer and Brentwood resident, Tom Safran, explains his ideas for a new office building he would like to construct at the corner of San Vicente and Montana.
Tom Safran, housing developer and long-time patron of Brentwood causes, presented a plan to the Brentwood Community Council outlining his hopes for an office building he’d like to construct at the corner where Montana, San Vicente and Westgate converge.
Currently this corner, on the north side of San Vicente, is occupied by a gas station called “TJ’s Auto Solutions.” Next door to this corner is the Lowe’s Building, which includes the upscale sushi restaurant called Katsuya.
Assuming the land is successfully purchased and the building approved, there will be a “green” roof on top of the building, with a garden-like atmosphere. Solar panels will also be installed.

ll be visible from several angles as people drive by on San Vicente, Montana and Westgate. At the street level, there will be a little plaza, with a fountain, that will be open to the public.
Safran’s staff of 36 would occupy the new building, and all employees would have parking inside the building, so no additional pressure would be put on neighborhood parking. Safran’s staff currently occupies three disconnected offices in a building across the street and down about a half a block.
Safran, who lives within walking and biking distance of the building, said it was always his dream to have his own building. Projected cost of the new structure is estimated to be $8.5 million.
Safran is a generous contributor to many good causes in Brentwood. His proposal was warmly received by the BCC, which voted overwhelmingly in favor of supporting the project, which goes before a city planning commission January 7.
