Windows 7 on your Mac for free!

Karl D. Susman, Westside Gadget Guy

May 19, 2009

Yes, yes I know. You have a Mac so you don’t have to run Windows in the first place. Don’t tell me you aren’t, at least at times, curious. Maybe not curious about Windows Vista, however maybe about the new Windows 7. Take a walk on the wild side, and you can be up and running a fully legal copy of Windows 7, on your Mac, 100% free of charge.

The first thing you need to do is forget the whole Boot Camp concept. If you work on a Mac, the last thing you want to do is be in a position where you can’t see your beloved OSX at all times. You need what is called a virtual machine. This is a program that will allow you run actually run a completely separate computer operating system within your Mac OSX. Here is where the magic begins.

Head on over and get a FREE copy of Sun’s Virtual Box. This is the program you can download onto your Mac that you will then use to run Windows 7. Download and install Virtual Box. It is simple and straight forward. If you get stuck let me know, and I’ll even walk you through it. Next head on over to Microsoft and download the FREE copy of Windows 7. Once you have gotten that disk image for Windows 7, follow the instructions on Virtual Box and you will be up and running Windows 7 in no time!

Tony - I hear ya buddy. Sometimes, for work reasons mostly, you need access to Windows. This is a free way to do it, at least for the next year. Ryan - not sure why you are seeing that, try closing the browser and trying again. MS may be getting ... read more »

BTW your language AI is a little touchy, I had to re do my post 5 times, I originally asked if my computer was f-r-e-a-k-i-n-g out because it was stuck on a page and I got 'reported' for swearing

Karl, thanks for the reply, but no thanks!!. (I'm "Anonymous". I forgot to enter my name as I have done now.) You're right about the MAC OS part. But the root question is really about the troubles that Microsoft OS ownership brings. So I CC'd a more ... read more »

Anonymous - Let me answer your question. No. When you run a program in a Virtual Machine, such as outlined here, any potential threats, virus, etc. are all held within that Virtual Machine. Your Mac OS is completely separate and safe.
