On Thursday, April 3, The Wellness Community–West Los Angeles (TWC-WLA), a non-profit organization dedicated to providing support, education and hope to people affected by cancer and to their loved ones, held its 10th annual “Tribute to the Human Spirit” awards gala at the Beverly Hills Hotel. The event was hosted by award-winning actress Michelle Lee and featured entertainment by the USC Marching Band. This year’s honorees included TWC-National Senior Vice President of Research and Training Mitch Golant, Ph.D., and his wife Susan, an award-winning author; veteran Hollywood publicist Carl Terzian; and Alliance Imaging Chairman and CEO Paul Viviano.

“All of our honorees are not only accomplished figures in their respective professional arenas, but each is personally dedicated to alleviating struggle and suffering in our community,” said Ellen Silver, Executive Director of The Wellness Community–West Los Angeles. “We are so proud to celebrate each of these remarkable individuals and their myriad contributions to our community.”

Founded in 1982, TWC-WLA was the first in what has now become the largest international organization in the world devoted solely to providing psychological and emotional support to cancer patients and their families, free of charge. The program combines the skill of the physician with the will of the patient and is considered by many distinguished oncologists to be an integral part of conventional medical treatment. Located on Ocean Park Boulevard in Santa Monica, TWC-WLA relies entirely on community support in order to continue providing these much-needed services at no cost to the participants.
